vA vitality is growing in the City of the Hills. Oligarchs have spoken its name in hushed tones and angry whispers in their nefarious meetings. We, however, believe that it is time to advocate for progressive politics in Oneonta. We are progressives, and we will move the city forward.
We are putting out this newsletter in the hopes that it might counteract some of the media bias that we have received during our efforts to advocate for the working class in Oneonta at the city level. For example, we once brought five individuals to the Common Council, each with their own testimony in support of progressive legislation. To our great irritation, we discovered the next day that a local media outlet had reported on the one voice against progressive legislation, but the five of us who spoke in favor of it received no coverage whatsoever. In light of this, we have decided to create our own little news outlet, so that we can deliver the truth unfettered by those who would distort it.
At the moment our movement can be summed up with three simple demands. These demands are as follows, first, we want a housing bill to be passed by the Common Council as soon as possible. Second, we want the Common Council to legislate a major expansion of quality and affordable mental health care for all city residents. Finally, we want a return of vacant housing units from the hands of absentee landlords into the hands of Oneonta residents.
We do not want animosity with anyone. We simply want to be respected as neighbors. But know this, we are the future of the city. We are the young professionals you claim to love so much. We will be respected, and WE WILL BE HEARD!
